J.J. Spaun wins his first title at Valero Texas Open;  Aussie Matt Jones T2

SAN ANTONIO (AP) — J.J. Spaun won his first PGA TOUR event — and his first trip to the Masters — by firing a final-round 69 at the Valero Texas Open on Sunday.

In his 147th PGA TOUR start, Spaun survived a double-bogey start to his round by recording five birdies with no bogeys to finish at 13-under at TPC San Antonio. It gave him a two-shot margin over Matt Kuchar (69) and Matt Jones (66).  Read more

Australia's Matt Jones has stormed home with an equal-best final-round six-under to finish in a tie for second at the Valero Texas Open.

Jones shot a 66 at TPC San Antonio to finish two shots behind J.J. Spaun, who won his first PGA Tour event – and his first trip to the Masters – by firing a 69 on Sunday.  Read more

Coming into the event, J.J. Spaun was without a PGA Tour victory in 146 starts. On his 147th, the American secured not only his first PGA Tour title, but the final spot at next week's Masters, which gets underway on Thursday 7th April.

Beginning the final round, the leaderboard couldn't be much tighter, with a four-way tie between Spaun, Brandt Snedeker, Beau Hossler and Dylan Frittelli setting up a thrilling climax at the Valero Texas Open.  Read more
